Your app did not become intelligent. It added a text box.
A lot of software is now an “AI platform.” The product is the same. There is a new rectangle where you can type a sentence. Behind the rectangle is someone else’s model, billed by the word, wrapped in a splash screen that says the future arrived this sprint.
Sometimes the rectangle is useful. Summarize this. Draft that. Translate the thing. That is a feature. It is not a new kind of company. A calculator did not make the notepad an “arithmetic platform.”
How to read the announcement
- If the post leads with “excited to announce” and a stock photo of neon, wait for the changelog.
- If the only demo is a chat window, the product is a chat window.
- If they will not say which model, whose data, or what it costs when it is not free, the intelligence is the press release.
A text box can still be a good text box. Ask what it does when the model is wrong. If the answer is “just try again,” you are the quality-control department, and you are not on the org chart.
